Rusty Olson, District 2
Rusty Olson farms near Hancock County where he has raised conventional corn and soybeans, organic corn, soybeans, oats, alfalfa and other small grains over the last 25 years. For several years he has also owned and operated a successful grain bin construction and moving business as well as a custom feeding operation and trucking business. His wife Jennifer is also involved in the financial and decision-making process of the operation.
Rusty’s farming career began while attending Iowa State University. Upon graduation, he returned and worked to diversify the family farm and eventually took over operations and management.
Rusty currently serves as the Iowa Corn Growers Association Director representing District 2 and on the Exports and Grain Trade Committee.
He is an active member of the Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Soybean Association and Iowa Farm Bureau. He has served on the Hancock County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, President, Voting Delegate, and as a Legacy Farm Board Member. He was a graduate of the IFBF Ag Leaders Institute 2002 and a participant in the IFBF Agriculture Market Study Trip Poland 2017 and IFBF Presidential Trip Germany 2018.
He is also a private pilot, a part of the Algona Area Pilots Association, volunteer for multiple community activities and events, board member and volunteer for the Jack Race/Midwest Sled Fest and Chairman for the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce Annual 4th of July Fireworks Committee.
Rusty has gained skills of leadership, knowledge and ability to work at the grassroots level with legislation officials to promote agriculture commodities, and support producers and our agriculture industry as a whole and looks forward to the opportunity to serve at a greater level with ICGA.
Rusty and his wife have one child Mahylnn.
