December Stand Up with Stan
By: Stan Nelson
Stan Nelson is a farmer from Middletown, Iowa, and currently serves as the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) President.
Part of why I stand up for the Iowa Corn Promotion Board is because I know it’s not just an opportunity to advocate for myself and my farm, but also my neighbor and every other farmer in the state of Iowa.
Through grassroots efforts we are able to bring the ideas and efforts of local corn growers to fruition through conversation and funding from the Iowa Corn Promotion Board. That’s why the committee structure of Iowa Corn is important, as it is an opportunity for local farmers and agribusiness professionals to be involved in shaping projects and messages presented by Iowa Corn.
I recently attended the Exports and Grain Trade Committee where we discuss funding for the U.S. Grains Council who builds international markets for grain in all forms, especially corn. We received an update on the Mexico Decree that would ban white corn from the U.S. and the USGC’s latest mission to Nigeria where they are working to enable the reinstitution of their E10 policy to increase demand for U.S. ethanol.
I know that as an individual farmer, I would never be able to speak with to major stakeholders of foreign countries, by myself. However, because of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board’s investment in the U.S. Grains Council, Iowa farmers have individuals actively working to build and maintain markets for the corn we grow on our farms every single day across the globe.
